I have an HP Photosmart C4300 all-in-one (printer, scanner, copier) that I love! $ 140 at Best Buy about 2 months ago. Very easy to use and wireless capabilities. Have been scanning all my photos recently and have absolutely had no problems with it.

How do I use a scanner?

Question by Mama J.: How do I use a scanner?
I bought a new 3 in 1 printer, copier, scanner but don’t know how to scan. We have Windows Vista for our operating system. I am wondering if somebody can please tell me how to scan photos, documents etc into my computer and what program do I need to be in if any to do that?

Answer by sdjk j
1st step is to install the supporting software, that is provided in CD-ROM with your 3 in 1 machine… Then after installing your drivers and supporting software… then put your desired paper or the document in you scanner, if it is flat based then it will be like photocopy… if not then the document will be inserted like the other pages that are inserted to get the print outs… But difference is only this that printing papers are inserted beneath the tray and document to be scanned will be placed up on the tray of your machine… For More information… See the manual of your machine that is most probably provided with your machine as you can learn things easily.

First, if it is already set up, you should be able to use the scanner feature just as you do the coping. Otherwise you will need the CD from the scanner, install it follow directions and plug USB or whatever cable/port your scanner has.

Copy vs. Scan – Why does a copier have better quality than a scanner?

Question by HeyNowBrownCow: Copy vs. Scan – Why does a copier have better quality than a scanner?
I have noticed that on digitial copiers (either black/white or color) they can turn out good results when making a copy, but if you then take that same machine and scan your document in (such as in 300 dpi) the results are much degraded.

Does a digital copier use a different scanning technology for copies than when scanning to PC?

Best answer:

Answer by Marco – Yahoo
yes different methods –

A fax / scanner converts what it scans into a picture i.e pixels and as a result the quality is reduced drastically.

A digital machine is able to create “pictures” but uses vector images, which are sharper and have better quality.

A scanner is used like a copier except it creates a digital copy of the document or image so you can use it in your computer. For example, you lost your resume and only have a hard copy. You can scan your resume into your computer, use an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) program (all scanners have some form of this software) and now you have a document you can edit in your computer with Word. People also use it store copies of their printed photos. It can be used many ways to get your real world stuff into the digital world.

To use it is pretty simple, but it is best to use the manual. As you can’t find yours, go to the site of the printer/copier/scanner maker (HP, Epson, Canon) and go to their support pages. Enter the model of your device and you will be able to get a soft copy of your manual. You can also get the software that will allow your computer to “talk” to your device which I think you may already have if you are printing.

Hope this helps.

Is it possible to connect a standalone copier to the computer so that it could be used as a scanner?

Question by tom t: Is it possible to connect a standalone copier to the computer so that it could be used as a scanner?
What connecting wires might be needed?
Shouldn’t modern copiers have the ability to scan since it can store images in its memory so it is just a matter of finding a way to access the memory.
The particular copier that i am interested in is Canon GP405.

Answer by Peter_AZ

Technically, I’m sure it’s possible if the copier has some sort of output port. If there is no such port, (which may be likely), you’re out of luck.

If there is a port, you’d still need some sort of software on the computer to control the scanner in the copier, or at least to receive and interpret the bitstream as it comes in.

Considering that you can buy a scanner for well under $ 100 (including cables and software), I don’t think it would be cost-efficient to do it yourself.

The only other suggestion might be to search the copier’s website and see if they make such an option available.

If the material requires the same amount of ink, then yes. If you are printing and copying the same page then the ink usage is the same.

Q&A: how to use scanner on those digital copiers?

Question by SA_QU8688: how to use scanner on those digital copiers?
I’m talking about those really big copy machines that have the fax, copier, and scanner all at once… please help 🙂

Best answer:

Answer by Xerox Ct
Normally, there is an attachment on top of the copy machines where you can slide your document in to scan and or copy. I’m not sure if you can fax it at the same time, but these copy/scanners/fax machines are so quick that you won’t lose much time if you have to fax your document immediately after scanning.
